1. Cut a 7 inch 1/4 circle out of the watercolor paper. (See picture) The
longest point should be 7 inches. If this were a full circle, it would have a
14"diameter. Paint one side of the 1/4 circle gold( or any color you wish.)
This will be the INSIDE.Let it dry.

2. Flip it over . Take the 1/4 circle with the gold on
the inside and shape it into a cone but DO NOT glue
it. You will do all you design work first and let it dry
before you glue the cone together. The purpose of
making the cone shape without glueing it to see where
design elements would fit. By looking at the cone
shape, you can see where items should be placed.
You may want to RS this and not paint it first, but I
think it looks more finished when its painted first
(Tip: use your fancy edge scissors to cut around the
top before you paint)Choose a light or transparent
shade if you are going to stamp on top of it. Here I
choose Quinacridone Gold acrylic paint. Let dry.
Then RS a back round if you wish. Here I chose Bella
Rosa Art Stamp # S193H. I stamped in brown
permanent ink, and then colored some of the flowers
with red and viloet chalk. I was not really careful, just
giving them a bit of color. The next part is layering of
Gayles Foil. I made three circles, The top one is dark
copper. The one under is gold foil cut with Victorian
edge scissors, and then the bottom layer is eggplant
color. I glued them all on in the center, one on top of
another. Next I took bits of lace and cut out small
portions. The same with some gift wrap. I picked
some dried flowers to compliment. I then stamped the
Victorian image in permanent black ink, Bella Rosa Art Stamp # M165I ,on bond paper and used colored pencils
to color it in, using the base I made as a guide for choosing colors. I cut this out and arranged all of my pieces on
my cone shape and glued them down with PPA. I glued under and over all the pieces. Let this dry really well.( see
picture of shape before its glued together.) After this dried, I felt the need to add more color to the stamped image.
I used colored pencils right on top of the PPA. This worked fine.
Some ideas as to what to use for designs:
Stamp images in permanent ink on bond paper, and color with pencils( if using markers or watercolor pencils, seal
very well first) thin paper is the key as they will be cut out later. Gift wrap has wonderful flowers and clocks and all
kind if items. You can cut these out or tear them out. Exotic papers are wonderful for accents. Keep them on the
thin side though. Gayles foil has wonderful designs and colors. Use this as accents to add lots of shine. Dried
Flowers and any flat element would work really well. You can emboss images and glue them down. The backround
would look great embossed. You can make an distinct design or an allover pattern. Cut or tear out images as you
see fit for your design. Both ways are fun. You could use only Stamps also. Get creative!
3. Make or buy a tassle, Glue the top part of the cord to the bottom point of the cone so it hangs out freely. You
can add beads to the tassle also. Just tie a good knot at the top so when the cone shape is made, the tassles will to
hold in place. Gold or Silver Wisp makes a great tassle. You can combine it with beads from the Crown Jewels and
with other fibers. See our site for Beads and Wisp.
4. Make the cone shape again and this time with
heavy white glue, glue this together. On the
outermost edge where it would be glued, use double
stick tape to secure and add more glue as needed to
hold in place. Let this dry. A hot glue gun might work
well too.
5. Now its time to embellish! punch a hole on two
sides and tie some ribbon to a comfortable legnth
that you wish to hang it. All kinds of ribbon & fibers,
and combos of ribbons & fibers can be used. You can
leaves the two ends open and tie a bow if you wish.
Punch tiny holes around the top edge and tie Gold or
silver wisp through. Hang tiny beads. Fringe would
also look great here! Any kind of fancy gimp would
work. ( see picture of finshed piece)
A sweet idea is to use these for holding small
amounts of things, such as candies or chocolates.
Silk flowers or dried flowers will make a nice display
using this as a holder. To make a nice gift for a
stamper, include a few smaller UMs and little
baggies of EP. They can then be wrapped in fancy
tissue paper & given or mailed to a friend.
We hope you have enjoyed this class.
